Position Summary

The Child Care Teacher 1 is responsible for organizing and leading activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips for children six weeks to five years old in an open space setting at the Child Care Center.

The Child Care Teacher 1 reports to the Director of Campus Child Care.  

Required Education and Work Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Pre K4 Endorsement, and License by the State of Tennessee.

Some Experience in developing and maintaining all aspects of child care educational program.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

Knowledge of methods, materials and program development. Knowledge of the psychological and biological needs of children.

Knowledge of developmentally and cultural appropriate practices.

Knowledge of best practices for inclusion of all children into the classroom environment.

Ability to organize activities for creative play.

Ability to write and implement lesson plans.

Ability to make decision, both within and without the guidelines of established procedures.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective teaching and working relationship with the children, parents, staff and others.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

Directs all activities of children in the child care program, preparing and presenting developmentally appropriate, age appropriate materials; coordinating classroom activities.

Develops and prepares the curriculum consisting of lesson plans and teaching units designed for both individual and group (large & small) learning situations. Organize and develop new curriculum units and themes. Maintain daily schedule.

Establishes children’s records, evaluate, assess and update regularly to reflect progress. Makes observations and document.

Utilizes the latest techniques, methodologies and best practices in early childhood and child development.

Communicates with parents pertaining to the development of the children; conducts parent conferences and pre-visits.

Supervises child care assistants, college work study students, institutional workers, volunteers, foster grandparents and practicum students.

May perform other duties as assigned by the director.

This is a grant-funded position. Employment continuation is based on refunding of the grant.
