Position Summary

This is a full-time, 9-month term faculty appointment reporting to the Department Head of Business and Legal Studies. The Instructor is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The Instructor is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Southwest Tennessee Community College campus as assigned. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees, participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations.  

Required Education and Work Experience

Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management or related discipline with course work relevant to hospitality management or associate’s degree in the teaching discipline with demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline. Master’s degree preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation. Knowledge and understanding of a college academic environment. Knowledge of current teaching and learning strategies to facilitate student-centered learning; experience interacting successfully with academically and culturally diverse student populations. Skill in active listening by giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Skill in selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things. Skill in appropriate computer operations. Skill in excellent teaching and organization. Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand. Ability to interact with a diverse population. Ability to exhibit emotional control and stability and manage stress.
