Position Summary

This is a temporary part-time, appointment working under the close supervision of the Director of Cashier Offices and Accounts Receivable. He/she is responsibility for cashiering duties in accordance with Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) and Southwest policies and guidelines. This position is primarily located at the Macon Campus and requires a flexible work schedule of 25 hours per week.

Required Education and Work Experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

One (1) year experience in cashiering, data entry and computer keyboards.

Experience working in a direct customer service environment on a daily basis.

Experience with office equipment, such as 10 key calculator, copier, scanner and fax machine.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

Knowledge of Excel and Word software applications.

Knowledge of monetary transactions.

Knowledge of Business English and Mathematics.

Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.

Ability to learn clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed office routine.

Ability to work from a cash drawer, issue receipts, and make change as required.

Ability to make mathematical computations and tabulations accurately.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, the public, and other employees.

Ability to count currency and coins accurately.

Ability to operate a keyboard and calculator by touch.

Ability to effectively communicate both oral and written.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

Operates a cash drawer, issues receipts, and makes change as required. Processes student and non-student payment transactions by posting to Touchnet Cash Receipting System.

Answers general information questions from students and faculty. Assists students with problems via telephone, written correspondence or office visits.

Checks fiscal and statistical records for completeness and mathematical accuracy according to standard procedures. Balances daily cash receipts and prepare bank deposit and cash reports.

Processes petty cash disbursements upon request and assists with the distribution of accounts payable, payroll and refund checks.

Operates 10 key calculator or other office machinery in the performance of routine clerical duties.

Activates and deactivates financial holds on student accounts.

May perform other duties related to cashiering as assigned.
