Position Summary

This is a full-time permanent, fiscal year position in the Division of Information Technology Services reporting to the Director of Infrastructure Services. The Manager/System Administrator is responsible for the effective, efficient, and secure operation of the College’s academic server and data storage resources. The incumbent is responsible for resource specification, evaluation and recommendation of equipment, software and services, coordinating acquisition and deployment of resources, resource maintenance, monitoring of costs for accuracy and proper allocation, and testing and monitoring system function to ensure continuous reliable operation. He/she may supervise part-time temporary workers as conditions warrant.

Required Education and Work Experience

Associate’s degree.

Five (5) years experience in a network computing environment.

Experience in the planning, resource acquisition, and deployment of Active Directory, Windows and Unix/Linux server environments, including operating system installation and configuration, e-mail management, and system security. Experience with Storage Area Networks, disk, and tape backup equipment and software.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

Knowledge of contemporary networking technology including Ethernet, TCP/IP, NAT, DNS, DHCP, network security practices, and fiber optic and UTP cabling.

Knowledge of Active Directory, Window Server OS, Solaris, Red Hat Linux, VMWare, security, file and print services.

Knowledge of SAN environments including both ISCSI and Fiber channel. Ability to operate a high-availability virtual server environment.

Skill in leadership, including commitment to teamwork, continuous improvement, customer focus, and integrity.

Skill in interpersonal, oral and written communications.

Skill in excellent oral and written communication.

Ability to plan, install and maintain complex communication systems.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

Maintains academic and DE server environment, system management, maintenance and repair.

Maintains college-wide email environment, including OS, server software and mailbox storage.

Manages backup software for the college-wide server and SAN environment.

Provides primary support for all data communications which includes switched local area networks at all sites, extensive wide area networking connecting all sites, Internet service, and network management systems. Responsibilities include planning, acquisition, installation, programming, security, and support of data communication equipment, cabling, and services. Supports end-user for server-related issues.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Full-time employees at Southwest work 37.5 hours per week. Benefits include health insurance, annual and sick leave, tuition assistance and retirement. Employment continuation is based on refunding of grant.

Salary commensurate with experience and credentials.
